A battle you must pick, a future you must choose. There being a peaceful and calm kingdom, and another that seeks more, the relationships between both countries reach their limit and a struggle is about to start, and you will have to choose a side. You, as the protagonist, descendant of dragons, is from the royal family from the peaceful kingdom Hoshido, but raised by the royalty of the kingdom seeking for glory, Nohr, who are also descendants of dragons.
"Fates" is something important, since the decisions will affect history, to the point it will change the path you will go through. Though the most important decision is to pick a game to buy, since it's split in two (Hoshido or Nohr), being those the paths you will have to choose, having to spend more money if you want to see everything as DLCs or expansions, though at the same time everything is announced as a single game. There's even more content you will have to pay for, such as maps, a character that expands the story of the route and add adds even more content with another route.
- With Hoshido, the light kingdom, you must protect your homeland, from the crushing Nohr invasion. You will have plenty of flexibility and liberty out of the story, being more recommended for those that preferred the liberty Awakening gave.
- With Nohr, the dark kingdom, you must fight with the royal family of Nohr to change the reign. The difficulty is slightly higher in comparison, and more recommended for those who prefer the classic Fire Emblem games, since you need to have a good management.
Meaning that, each route is a different game, with some examples, being able to compare it to Pokémon or Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons, with stories, maps, dialogs and characters, having the same duration as a Fire Emblem game and each one with a price close to one too (although, if you buy the other route digitally is half the price). Besides, there is a third option or "game" to choose as a DLC, that being "Revelation" that equally offers different content than both routes, with some elements of them in it.
Though, "according" to the developers, they seek we think "I chose this but should have chosen the other", for every action and what they mean after passing the point of no return or after playing every route.
This game also uses again a lot of the added things that Awakening took from past games, giving them even more options and content, using its looks and motor.
Although, this time weapons and magic don't have uses so it's easier for the players, more skills, pair-up system or attacking together but more balanced, or things like marriage and having children come back. Some of them having… Questionable relationships with their family, and there are some cases where it can be with your same gender.
And along with new things like the evolution of a "base" from Tellius games or the castle from Holy War in "My Castle", where you can manage your shops, get basic resources for food or more weapons, talking with your characters, go to hot springs and inviting characters to talk to them, or petting them in some way (only Japanese version) so you can level up your relationship with them, or even dress them as you wish.
